A Batch of Buntings
Unofficial description.

Ashtabula, Ohio

Five-year-old Anna Sinclair rushed down the attic stairs sobbing. She took one last look behind her, light leaking out into the attic hallway from the garret bedroom. She slammed the staircase door behind her and ran to her mother. With a limited vocabular, all she'd been able to say was: I saw a shadow woman nodding at me.

Now twenty-four years old, Anna's mother has passed. Anna sold the house in Ashtabula and bought her own apartment a few towns away. The memories of what had happened at the Valleyview House are far gone - but only from the surface of her mind. The furthest corners of her brain remember.

She's lived long enough in a tolerable state with her meds, but when her somatic flashbacks begin oddly intensifying, she sees a psychotherapist. Within her sessions, the memories from the house start resurfacing, especially about that night in the garret. She is so horrified that she ghosts her therapist, quits her job, and moves in with a friend.

Then it starts. From the muffled clapping in the basement to the catatonic deer in the yard to the cookie sheets lined with dismembered birds that keep appearing in the oven. Something is in their building, urging her to return to the Valleyview House.

With no options remaining, and with hiding only making it worse, Anna knows she needs to turn to the Valleyview house and confront the monsters she's been avoiding for so long - figuratively and literally.
